Zepherine Drouhin

Years ago, when we lived in the north of England, my mother-in-law lived on her own in Surrey. Every time we visited we would do little jobs in the garden and one year we had to clear an old lilac bush which was on teh way out. In its place we planted a rose; we wanted one which had lots of blooms, plenty of colour and a strong scent… and after a little research we chose Zephirine Drouhin. The next time we visited, even though the plant was still quite young and in its first year in her garden, already it had quite a few lovely roses, which were as described, a beautiful deep purply red with a gorgeous scent.

In our front garden we have a Zephirine Drouhin, and it is wonderful, and every time a new rose burst forth  and every time I smell the scent, especially on a warm evening,  I think of my mother-in-law.
