Four Christmas dinners!

Just home from the Dolphin and yes, the Otter Ale was as good as ever, and just had a glance at their Christmas menu. We always have a Dolphin Christmas dinner, sometimes on my husband’s birthday, sometimes on a different December evening, but it is always fabulous…

The menu for Christmas 2013 has been put up… oh goodness me! I think I will have to go four times in order to enjoy everything on offer… Apart from the complimentary hors d’oevres, there is a choice of soup (home-made and no doubt divine) stuffed mushrooms (with Stilton) and Parma ham and stuff… delicious stuff! Moving on to the main event, there is traditional turkey which I always have… except there is also lamb which I know will be perfectly cooked and utterly delicious… but, heavens! there is fish pie which is a favourite of mine… oh no! there is lasagne with roast vegetables! How could I possibly choose! I would have to have turkey, obviously that is what you eat at Christmas, but lamb… lamb is a favourite… and fish pie… oh and roast veg!

Pudding… now if it is a Christmas dinner it has to be Christmas pudding… but suppose we come a second time and I have lamb… maybe I should have the cheese board, because I know that will be the best!

Oh Dolphin….  I think I will be seeing you several times over Christmas!

A nice pint! Cheers!

Fish pie is delicious… a variety of fish (white and smoked) and shellfish such as prawns which I think you might call shrimp (shrimps to us are tiny little shellfish, very small but very yummy) The fish is folded into a white sauce placed in a dish with mashed potato over the top to form a crust, and then popped in the oven fr a few minutes to brown. I like the white sauce quite peppery and with parsley in it… a nice dry white wine and what could be better?!
