Off to the colonies with NaNo

Day ten took me in an unexpected direction on NaNo, the challenge to write 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November. My story is about a family in search of its roots and they have gone back to the 1840’s when there are two brothers, who may have come from Poland in the 1830’s after an abortive attempt by the Polish Army to shake off Russian control.

By the 1850’s on of the brothers has disappeared… maybe he has left England again, maybe he has gone back to Poland, to mainland Europe, to the USA where other Polish soldiers were sent after the failed revolt.Or maybe… just maybe he went with so many other people from the British Isles, to the other side of the world, to Australia. When I started my novel, I had no thoughts of the genealogical trail leading in so many different directions! But I think this is what happens; thanks to the internet, people have access to records and information from across the world, and can share their interests and quests with others.

So that was day ten… now what will day eleven bring?
