In my latest novel the action in one scene takes place at a works ‘do’; the staff go to a hotel where there is an expensive restaurant, and then there is a ballroom where a live band is playing. The band is a tribute band playing hits from the 80’s so i had to do a little research to see what the band might be playing. The 80′ have a reputation for being a decade with not much good music. I was quite interested to see how many songs liked from that time, and the variety of different artists who were performing.
Here is just a selection of songs that were hits …
- Cars – Gary Numan
- Working My Way Back To You-Forgive Me Girl – Spinners
- Bette Davis Eyes – Kim Carnes
- 9 To 5 – Dolly Parton
- Rapture – Blondie
- The Tide Is High – Blondie
- Slow Hand – Pointer Sisters
- The Winner Takes It All – Abba
- Don’t You Want Me – Human League
- Chariots Of Fire – Vangelis
- Every Breath You Take – Police
- Flashdance… What A Feelin – Irene Cara
- Down Under – Men At Work
- Total Eclipse Of The Heart – Bonnie Tyler
- Do You Really Want To Hurt Me – Culture Club
- Hungry Like The Wolf – Duran Duran
- Let’s Dance – David Bowie
- Africa – Toto
- Up Where We Belong – Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
- Sexual Healing – Marvin Gaye
- You Can’t Hurry Love – Phil Collins
- Girls Just Want To Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper
- Hold Me Now – The Thompson Twins
- I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues – Elton John
- Take On Me – A-Ha
- Take My Breath Away – Berlin
- Walk Like An Egyptian – Bangles
- Livin’ On A Prayer – Bon Jovi
- The Time Of My Life – Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes
