Careful what you ask for!

Every so often a guest beer is brought in to the Dolphin, and over Christmas we’ve had one called  A Good Stuffing, a play on words, probably referring to the savoury stuffing made from herbs and breadcrumbs and sometimes sausage meat which goes into the roast bird for Christmas dinner.

It is a pale ale, but with a good colour and to me it has a light lemony taste and is very refreshing. It is brewed by Wells and Young’s and it is described as having ‘a fine balance between malt and hops’ and being ‘a satisfying and rounded pale ale’. The description of it having ‘an amber colour, fruity nose and good hop aroma’ is accurate… it really is a lovely tart beer, refreshing and light.

What makes this special for me is that the company of Charles wells, a Bedford brewery which began in the 1870’s, used to supply beer and possibly owned the pub my grandfather held the license of, the Portland Arms in Cambridge.
