Do you think this was to hold embers or some other slow burning material to give out heat? Do you think a candle was put inside to give out light, and maybe was it used outside on summer evenings? Do you think rose petals and spices were kept in it as a sort of pot pourri?Do you think some wrapped food item was put inside and then lowered into cool water to keep fresh?
