Sunday lunch

For Sunday lunch today we had pie! I wrote a little while ago about the meal I was planning for our friends, and i think i said we would start with beetroot soup… oh dear… beetroot soup and the freezer didn’t lie each other very much, and beetroot soup rebelled… it was not nice, and it had to be thrown away. However since we were having pie, and creamed swede, and curly kale, and purple sprouts, and potatoes done in the oven in the style of my friend Judith, I thought probably soup was not necessary. We had beef pie with mushrooms and chestnuts, and it was very nice… delicious!

For dessert I used the idea of the Icelandic Christmas cake I made, used the flavours, cardamom and almonds, with a prune filling, and just made an ordinary Victoria sponge. It  was really nice… especially with some sour cream to accompany it… and then to finish we had some English cheese, and coffee!

All this was accompanied by great conversation, lively chat, a lot of reminiscence, and quite a lot of laughing! Thank you friends!
