Back on the 5:2!

I’m sure I am not alone in having a belated New Year’s resolution to take control of my eating! I had a wonderful Christmas, and this year we were fortunate enough to be invited to several parties… so lots of wonderful food, and quite a few drinks too!

I’m sure most people who struggle with their weight find it mystifying how long it takes to shed just a few pounds, and how quickly those lost pounds come galloping back. I like healthy foods, I love salads, and I’m not that keen on sweet things, I rarely have desserts… but wait a minute! Eating cheese after a meal probably gives more calories than what ever the gooey sweet thing does… and then as well  the cheese there are the biscuits and the delicious chutneys people have kindly given as gifts… And although I’m convinced beer is good for you… it also does have a lot fo calories! Red wine… St paul himself suggested taking ” a little wine for thy stomach’s sake”… yes, Lois, a little wine!

So enough is enough, tight trousers have to go… so I’m back on the 5;2 diet, which means two days a week of eating minimally but deliciously – I love vegetables, and then five days of eating sensibly… and less beer!

I found the secret to losing weight is to count carbohydrates not calories. When I found out my glucose levels were high I was given 180 carbs a day to eat. Within 6 months I lost 40 pounds. and 8 inches off my waist. But the real secret is hard physical exercise. When I first joined the gym I pedalled 2 miles and burned 50 calories. I said to the girl next to me that I must have burned off 3 donuts! She said that wasn’t even a half a small cookie.Talk about a rude awakening! So I changed my diet and kept going faithfully to the gym. One last warning is that you may reach a plateau or even start to gain a few pounds but don’t give up. So don’t throw those fat pants away just in case……….Good Luck!

Well done you for losing so much weight – and you must be very fit now too! Well done! We joined a gym, but it just didn’t work for us – we just didn’t have the interest or commitment to keep going… I used to be really keen on sports but I can’t think of any now that I would enjoy, or be fit enough to play and which we could do round here. When it stops raining, we’re going to start walking, there is plenty of countryside to explore!
I think the secret with diet is finding what works for you – for me, like you its a combination of diet and exercise – for my husband the 5:2 was perfect, he lost 2 stone and went down to trouser sizes… I lost 7 pounds 😦
