Wine…

I have an occasional problem with an abdominal complaint, which I have suffered from being a child. I honestly have lost count of the number of times I have been to the doctors… and even been to hospital with it. It is extremely painful..and yet I don’t feel ill, sick, nauseous… it just hurts! I have had medication, pills potions… all sorts of different remedies… and no diagnosis as to what the problem is.

However… I have found, that there is one sure-fire remedy… red wine! Now I am not joking, I really am not. I do like wine very much, so it seems a bit suspicious that my remedy is something which I also enjoy, but honestly, I’m telling the truth, red wine solves my problem.

My abdominal pain came upon me today… but I can;’t drink red wine mid morning, can I? well, actually I could… but I didn’t. We went out for the day, and returned… pain… hurt… ow… I tried to ignore it and worked on my latest novel… At ten o’clock, my husband asked if I was still suffering… Yes! I was! We have no red wine… so we went to the Dolphin.

I know it sounds ludicrous, but within a couple of sips, the pain had eased, when I had enjoyed a whole glass of Shiraz the pain had disappeared completely… The only problem is, if I keep a stock of red wine at home in case I have a problem, I might drink it because I so enjoy it!

OK… I know my featured image is of a bottle of white wine… but it has the word Maverick on it!

I drink 2 ounces of extra virgin olive oil followed by yogurt with lots of probiotics[ cultures] every morning. Works like a charm for me and am as regular as clockwork. You may have to try different yogurts to find the one right for you. Anything thats natural is better.

Do you put the oil on a spoon? Would it work if I dipped something in it? I have some gorgeous Greek oil which I use for dipping and salads but not sure I could just drink it… unless I had a glass of wine straight after!!

“We have no red wine…” What? But you’re a cook! How can you make Spag Bol, or Coq au Vin, or Boef Bourgignon, or… almost anything tasty, without red wine? And if its not actually needed in the food, how can you get through the process of preparing and cooking an evening meal without a glass or two of cooking claret to fortify you? Sounds like madness to me.

We buy it specially when we need it, Peter! It’s about the first time in our lives that the wine rack isn’t full… but we’re trying to be economical… and it seems as fast as we buy wine, it drains out of the bottle… I think our boggart must like it, there’s no other explanation!!

The lady that put me on to the yogurt was an instructor at the YMCA. She had IBS. or irritable bowel syndrome since she was a girl so she had tried everything. As for the olive oil that was my own idea but it works. Either one by itself doesn’t do the trick for me. I drink the oil out of a shot glass and love the taste and a half hour later a small container of yogurt. Not all yogurts are created equal evidently so find the one that works for you and stick to it regardless of cost. Good Luck and I hope it works because I can’t bear to think of you in pain.
