Stained glass

bridgy feb (24)There is something wonderful about going into English churches… and I guess others in other countries, and in even quite small churches you see the most wonderful stained glass. This is not a really small church, it is the church of St Mary in Bridgewater, but the glass is still quite moving. My picture doesn’t give a true impression of the light streaming in, tinted by the glass… But at least it gives you an idea!

Here is a lovely blog about the church:

As I mentioned before, the place for stained glass is Fairford. Have you been yet? We also came across some very nice glass in a church not far from here, St Elisabeth’s Reddish. The church is designed by Waterhouse and the glass by Frederick Shields a Manchester pre-Raphaelite. However one of the most interesting features of the church are the paintings of the stations of the cross which are modern and incorporate pictures of some of the parishioners. I’ll send you an email with photos of them

Oh thank you… thanks for mentioning Fairford, we haven’t yet been… it hasn’t really been the weather for it, but next week if it’s nice that will be our little trip… and we’ll take a picnic! Looking forward to seeing your photos of St Elizabeth’s… Frederick Shields rings a bell… I must look him up!
