Cary Grant was born in Bristol in 1904, he left at the age of sixteen with a theatre company, on tour in the USA, and he decided to stay! He became an American citizen in 1942, but he is still a Bristolian, because look, here he is!

You’re right, his name was Archie Leach, but he was Bristolian and went to school there too!

I don’t think he would have gone far in Hollywood with a name like Archie Leach. Sounds like a shilock or a pickpocket or hanger-on.

I agree… I wonder where the name Cary came from… grant sounds a good solid masculine name, but Cary… I wonder where he got that?
