We picked sloes and added them to gin last autumn… to make sloe gin. We had intended to enter it for the sloe gin contest in the Dolphin over the Mayday weekend… but it wasn’t a good enough colour, and I didn’t think the flavour was as good as it should be… and also we didn’t decant it in time!
So, tomorrow, we shall very carefully decant pour the clear liqueur into a clean bottle and throw away the ginny sloes… I know it seems a waste but really they will just be disgusting! They will be desiccated by the alcohol, and sloes are so sharp anyway they just would not taste nice… but I promise I will drain them well into another container after we have poured off the best of the sloe gin!
