A nice glass of white

It’s a warm summer’s evening, the children are both at work and won’t be back till late, my husband is out rocking with his band at a private function, and having tidied the socks, tidied the airing cupboard, written a couple of thousand words of my next novel, Magick, I feel I deserve a nice glass of chilled wine…

Sadly, we have none, but if we did I would like a nice glass of Pinot Grigio; in general I prefer red wine, a nice beefy, rich, red with plenty of tannin – I know not everyone likes that but I do! Once when I was in France, many years ago on a similarly warm summer’s evening, I asked for a vin rouge, and the Monsieur asked if I would like it chilled. Having been brought up to consider white wine the sort to be chilled, and the red to be chambré it seemed odd… but he was French man so he must know about wine. I had a glass of red wine from the chill cabinet and it was wonderful… I wonder what it was?! I also once bought a bottle of sparkling red wine which needed to be chilled… again I have no idea what it was, except that it was very nice.

So, no wine… maybe a cup of tea?
