GBBO

You might think I watch a lot of TV from the amount of posts I wrote about TV programmes… actually I don’t, it’s just that when there is a programme I really like, or a series I follow, I can’t help but be excited about it and talk and write about it al lot.

GBBO, the Great British bake-Off, is a cookery competition where twelve contestants have to bake every sort of cake, pastry and bread you can think of, savoury or sweet, classic or innovative, traditional or funky! There are two judges, Mary Berry who is an expert in all sorts of cookery but especially cake-making, and Paul Hollywood who is a baker. She is nearly eighty, but you really wouldn’t think so from the way she is or the way she looks; she is the sort of person everyone would want as their granny. Paul Hollywood is stunning looking, with piercing blue eyes and can be very acerbic and critical. There are two presenters, two women who have been a comedy double-act for many years, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.

The contestants have to complete three tasks in each episode and are judged against each other with the weakest leaving the competition; when there are only three contestants left, there is a final bake-off to find the champion. Although the baking and cake-making is a serious business, the programme has a light touch (unlike some of the bakes!!) and there is a great deal of humour s well as fun. There is great rapport between the two judges, and the presenters try and help the contestants by being supportive and actually very funny!

I love making cakes, but I am not consistent enough and not versatile enough… but I wonder what I would cook if there was a family version, between me and my cousins… My favourite cake is carrot cake, but I think chocolate cake is the only one I could be sure of being successful!

He’s a star, isn’t he?! I like the builder… but I reckon the Irish guy might be an outsider who comes good as the series progresses!
I think so far they seem even more talented, all of them, than in previous years!
