This is a romanesco cauliflower… I had one delivered in my Riverford Organics veg box yesterday… apparently it is a fractal… or it is fractal in shape (not quite sure of this technical term!) I don’t exactly understand what it means, according to Wikipedia it is ” a natural phenomenon or a mathematical set that exhibits a repeating pattern that displays at every scale.”
This cauli was first developed in Italy, and has a nutty flavour – yes, it does because I had it for dinner last night with a light cheese sauce! It has vitamins C and K in abundance, hurrah! I liked it very much, and will enjoy it for my dinner again tonight!

Fascinating – never seen one of those before! 🙂

They are delicious – and keep their shape and colour when cooked!

We get these seasonally in our shop here in Tuscany – they’re delicious! I tried to grow them when I lived in Australia and while they were stunted and grew in miniature, you could still see the fractal spirals. Pineapples and sunflowers (and daisies) are among other plants that exhibit the Fibonacci sequence/Fractals (also check out the Mandelbrot set for fractal paradise). 🙂
