October 15th

With the whirlwind of writing and working on my latest novel, Magick, I really have lost tack of days and dates. I looked at the calendar and thought, oooh… October 15th! … and then I couldn’t remember why it’s significant.

I know yesterday was the anniversary of the battle of Hastings in 1066, and I found out about some other famous things which happened on today’s date in the past:

533 – Byzantine general Belisarius makes his formal entry into Carthage, having conquered it from the Vandals.
1520 – King Henry VIII of England orders bowling lanes at Whitehall
1522 – Emperor Karel I names Hernan Cortes governor of Mexico
1582 – Many Catholic countries switch to Gregorian calendar, skip 10 days
1815 – Napoleon Bonaparte arrives on island of St Helena to begin his exile

and I found some famous people whose birthday it is or would have been today:

  • Michel Foucault
  • Akbar the Great
  • Mario Putzo
  • Virgil
  • David Trimble
  • Friedrich Nietzsche
  • Tito Jackson
  • P.G. Wodehouse

…. but I still can’t remember why this day seemed significant to me… I hope I haven’t missed an appointment or a birthday!
