Walking round Faxaflói

Faxaflói is the name of the bay where Reykjavik is situated; our hotel was round one side of it and the city was at the other end. We were so fortunate with the weather that it was fine and dry and with no wind which is apparently unusual for November. So we had a nice stroll down to the harbour each day, although we usually walked through the city on the way back to make a bit of a circular tour of it.

All along the path, the pedestrian path that is – there is also a fine, wide well-marked cycle path, we kept stopping to admire the sculptures. In fact, all around Iceland we kept stopping to admire the sculptures, the country seems full of them, which is wonderful! There were pieces of every style you could imagine, made from all sorts of different materials.

DSCF7773 Many of the materials, if not most of the materials were rocks from Iceland, volcanic, obsidian, basalt, tephra… The forms were all different shapes and sizes and textures.

As we approached the harbour we began to see evidence of Iceland’s main traditional  industry, fishing.

I guess you could walk along the bay every day of your life and see something different!

Not really. Still love the oldies. Was lucky enough to live near Detroit when the MoTown sound was hot. Met and had a beer with Bob Seeger there and think he was one of the greatest. Bet he doesn’t remember me though.
