My family very kindly took me out for dinner as it’s Mothering Sunday today. We went to a restaurant we used to go to donkey’s years ago, before we even lived here, and it was always good. For some reason we haven’t been for ages, but a friend from quiz night told us it had reopened under new management and he’d had an excellent meal there so we toddled along.
The New Viceroy is a Bangladeshi and Indian restaurant and is bright and light and modern and welcoming. It had been very busy at lunchtime, with families taking their mothers out fora nice meal, but now it was a little less busy and we sat down to peruse the menus. There were lots of dishes we were not familiar with which was exciting, and when we told the waitress this, she immediately sent the manager to come and advise us. He was a charming man, very helpful and friendly and we were soon ordering our meal.
We had the usual popadoms and bits while we were waiting and our favourite Bangla beer. Our meal arrived and it looked amazing! what impressed us as well was the lovely presentation, and the modern and contemporary crockery – yes I know you don’t eat the actual plates, but it just set the meal up to be nicely presented. I had a Southern Indian mutton thing with lots of chillis, and spinach and chick peas and a couple of chapatis. My husband had a chickeny thing which to me was quite sweet, but he loved it, it was very coconutty and fruity and he had it with mushroom rice. My son had an enormous meal of chicken and minced lamb with egg… and he managed to eat it all!!
We had a wonderful evening, wonderful food, friendly and efficient service… and we can’t wait to visit again! Thank you New Viceroy!
