The first challenge of this year’s Great British Bake-off was to make a Madeira cake… it is something I haven’t eaten, probably since I was a child and I know I have never made one before… so I accepted the challenge, took out my Be-Ro recipe book, and set to. I mentioned a couple of days ago the recipe that Eliza Acton has in her 1850’s Modern Cookery book… I will try that, but I wanted to ‘practice’ with a 2015 modern recipe.
All went well… but the proof will be in the eating!
