We have no immediate plans to move house; we have lived here for nearly fourteen years and like our house, and the village we live in very much. However every so often I see a property for sale and have a little dream about buying it… but that’s all it is a dream. If we did ever decide to move, we would want to be by or very near the sea, and by or very near a good pub. The house in the picture above is near a good pub, but it is not by the sea, it would take about an hour of driving through wiggly windy roads to get there.
The house is in a very pretty, almost idyllic village, with a clear and sparkling stream running through, a village with history, and with places of interest in it, a village which seems to have plenty of events and things going on, as well as the aforementioned pub. There is a village shop, it is not far away from a nice market town which would have all the facilities you might want in terms of shops and services, and even a market, a museum, and plenty of pubs… and a nice river too!
The house in my picture is surprisingly big inside, with two reception rooms, three bedrooms and a large garden… maybe a little too big for us if we were going to downsize,; we like gardens but wish they would look after themselves and not need lots of constant attention! We have no intention at all of moving to this village, and wouldn’t want a house like this anyway, attractive though it is… which is just as well because it is no longer for sale, and when it was we couldn’t have afforded it!

We have moved so often in UK and Australia that now we would probably only move to a smaller house. One of the problems is the actual and so called “incidental” costs each time one moves.

I know! We hope to downsize at some point, but we’re not imagining we’ll come out of it with much of a nest egg! The legal aspects of it all cost so much without the physical side, the actual moving side!

I am pretty sure that the tax (among others) is lveied on the whole price of the house. There are variations from State to State but its origins are in the UK anyway. I think it’s money collected for no reason except to boost the State’s income.

For most people it makes a huge and horrible difference… I just feel its so unfair for ordinary people.

It’s an additional burden….and unjustified except for revenue raising purposes.

The tax burden should be shared far more equally… ordinary people like us are really affected by these taxes, the rich and the really rich won’t even notice it!

It’s a tax you have to pay when you buy a property over £125,000… as if buying a house isn’t expensive enough!

How are the young people in England supposed to get ahead when they stifle there initiative with a repressive tax. Throw the politicians briefcases in the Thames and them with them. Amen!
