It hardly seems possible that twenty-four years ago today we married! We had known each other as colleagues and nothing more for about twelve years, then during the Easter school holidays he was bored, and rang me up on the off-chance that I might want to go out for a pint! I don’t either of us imagined that twenty-five very, very happy years later and two lovely children and lots of fun, laughter, adventures and pints of beer we would still be together!
We seemed a most unlikely couple, even to each other, but within a few days of our first date we knew that was it, and a year later we married. We had a wonderful wedding day, a small ceremony with twenty odd of our closest family and friends, and then the first of our five receptions (yes five) before we set off for a holiday in Scotland. Our second reception was here in Uphill where my family lived, the third in Surrey where his family were, the fourth in Cambridgeshire where the rest of my family were, and finally a big party back in Oldham where we were living. it took us about four months to complete our celebrations!
We are away with friends today, so we will have lovely company to celebrate our happy occasion with, and we will begin to plan for next year… twenty-five years next year!
Notice I’m standing on a step… I always look up to my husband!!!
