Yet another night in the pub…

We invited a Hungarian friend for Sunday lunch, a typical Sunday roast… and after several hours of watching Typically British TV, at just gone nine, we went to the Dolphin, five of us.

We walked in and it was fairly quiet, three people at the bar at ‘our’ end, and quite a few others down at the other end… a few other folk in between. The people at ‘our’ end were the landlord, the cook (he prefers to be called that than ‘chef’) and another chap who it seems lives on a boat in the marina for roughly half the year.

The evening was very typical of an evening in our pub; we talked about sport (cricket), politics (national politics over the last thirty years or so) music (Kevin Montgomery and Jonas Carping) families… the usual sort of things in a pub.

The chap who I had never met before, had just bought a farm near Stratford; he was very excited, but rather daunted… he buys and sells cars and is going to conduct his business from there so he was really up for it but also a little anxious!

The cook and bar person told me about the writing he has done… it sounds really interesting and I hope he pursues it!

We talked to our Hungarian friend about English idioms and other things (‘I dare you to…’, ‘drink someone under the table…’)

We talked about friendship across an age gap.

We talked about owning pubs, being in pubs, working in pubs…

We talked about families…

We stroked various dogs including the pub dogs, Simba and Timon…

We said goodbye and good luck to the bar man who was leaving for a 9-5 job…

Altogether a typical night in our pub!

I played pool and sang Doctor, Doctor give me some news at our bar yesterday with a cute girl named Melissa. She said I looked like Tarzan. Had to buy her a beer and let her beat me at pool.No fool like an old fool.
