750 words again

While I was still working, my day job, in an effort to motivate myself to write every day I joined a site called very simply 750 words… and the aim of the site, which was like a private blog, was to do what it said, try to write 750 words a day. Unlike the national Novel Writing Month challenge, when the objective is to write 50,000 words of a new novel, this is simply writing. However, like NaNoWriMo, there are little rewards, badges, and cheery messages if you manage to complete a whole month meeting the target every day.

At the moment I am editing my next novel to be published; it’s very different from anything I’ve written before, what you might call a family saga. it is very long, but I’m whipping it into shape, cutting out a lot of waffle, fluff and repeats… but even so it will still be about twice as long as my usual novels. editing isn’t easy – it’s not just correcting spelling mistakes, there is a lot of actual writing, and rewriting, as well as all the checking for continuity and trying to spot errors or inconsistencies.

However… in many ways, editing, particularly what I’m doing at the moment is quite mechanical… so I am also doing some actual writing too, another of my genealogical mysteries. I have gone back to the 750 word site to help keep me writing and avoid the distractions working on a computer offers! I have accepted the monthly challenge, and am hoping to write at least 750 words every day this month… four days in and I’m on target… ok, so there are another twenty-five to go, but it’s a start!!
