Jumbles

Here’s an easy recipe from over a hundred years ago:

Jumbles

  • ¼ lb flour
  • ¼ lb treacle
  • ¼ lb demerara sugar
  • ¼ lb butter
  • 1 tsp ginger
  1. melt the butter and sugar together in a pan
  2. add to the flour, sugar and ginger and mix well
  3. leave until cold
  4. when cool, take small walnut sized spoonfuls of the mixture and drop onto a baking tray
  5. bake in a medium oven for 10 minutes
  6. take from the oven, lift from the baking tray and drape over a rolling pin and allow to cool

They should be chewy and crispy at the same time!
