100/100 CHALLENGE 5: Putting out the washing

April 30th, would have been Captain Tom Moore’s one hundred and first birthday, and in recognition of that, a new challenge has been announced that ordinary folk should try to complete a hundred somethings to raise more funds for The Captain Tom Foundation. My own challenge is to write over a hundred days, a 100 word blog each day.

Day 4:

Putting out the washing, the sun warm on my back, the wind catching the flapping laundry, I think about ironing when it’s dry.

The squeaking of the line against itself
Speaks to me
The sound of Jamie’s drill
Another noisy distant engine
The insistent shuffle of leaves and branches in the wind
The nonstop tweet of some determined to be heard bird
A door closes
A car starts
Voices
A blackbird
A distant hum
Sparrows
Children
The sound of trees the sound of the sea,
As the tide comes in
A boy whoops
And still the sparrow tweet tweets on
