Folding the laundry
‘Why do you fold the laundry from the machine?’
My late uncle asked his daughter-in-law,
my cousin’s wife, my friend and washing guru.
‘So when I take the clothes, once dry
from off the line,
folding them again,
they’re easier to iron’
Later, I noticed my uncle folding
his washing from the machine.
to take outside and peg out on the line.
I don’t always do the same,
But I rarely do I tumble washing in the basket,
Without thinking of my uncle
and my friend.
