Odd combinations

I’ve  mentioned before the odd combinations of food items I’ve put together and which surprisingly had turned out well on the delicious side! I honestly don’t know why I buy green peppers, green capsicums, I have an idea it was from reading a book about the Mafia, maybe ‘The Godfather’ by Mario Puzo. There was a scene near the beginning when some of the gang  bunker down as a gang war is about to erupt. One of them puts a pan on the stove, pours in a good slug of olive oil then slices in green peppers/capsicums, and when they are cooked, scoops them up on bread to devour them. It was such a vivid scene, that later I cooked peppers in the same way, eating them with crusty French bread.

The other day, at breakfast time, I was looking at some random items in the fridge and fancied some breakfast. Quite often I just have fruit, or an egg on toast, but for some reason I poured a slug of olive oil in my little frying pan, and added pieces of left over green pepper, thinking Mafia. In the fridge, lurking was some haggis and thinking the green pepper might be lonely, I added pieces of haggis to the pan. As I put the rest of it back, I noticed a chunk of feta cheese just asking to be eaten. I felt sorry for it, cubed it, and that too joined the green pepper and haggis.

I had this weird combo on a slice of toast, and I have to report it was delicious! In fact, I might very well repeat it again when I have the necessary ingredients – or somethings similar!
