With my next Radwinter novel, “Something and Nothing” is waiting in the wings, and before I decide what my next project will be, I just for some reason picked up the first of all my novels which is now out in the world. It is set on the imaginary island of Farholm, which is its title, and it starts with a young woman on the ferry from the mainland. It’s very choppy and she’s feeling very queasy, and very anxious about her reasons for going to the island. She’s called Deke – and yes, I know it’s an odd name, but that’s who she is. From the moment she arrives on the island, she finds that her own private mission is interwoven with other events which have happened there over the last few years, with roots going back to a tragedy thirty years before. Having picked it up, I didn’t start to read it, but I just looked at the last couple of chapters. As usual with my stories there’s some action and a bit of fisticuffs and a brutal punch up, before everything is explained, the truth revealed. The last few pages have the main characters on the ferry again, travelling back to the mainland when they will go their separate ways. I must say (immodestly) that I thought it was not bad!!

Devastated by the death of her young husband, Deke Colefox is determined to find out all she can about the man she married, Niko Nicolaides and decides to go to his family home on Farholm Island. Dr Michael Cabus has his own secret reason for visiting the island; he too wants to find the truth about a beloved stranger. Deke and Dr Cabus arrive on the same ferry as a beautiful girl who then disappears. The islanders fear the worst as two other young women were horrifically murdered the previous year. Deke and Michael each have a personal interest in finding the missing girl, and finding her before she meets the same fate as the other two. Their desire for answers leads them to face uncomfortable truths and their lives are put at risk in an unexpected and terrifying way.
I’m still awaiting the last few pieces to fall into place, and then “Something and Nothing” will be out in the world!
Thomas Radwinter has resolved to take on only the most harmless commissions – no tricky or dangerous undertakings to put his life at risk. Investigating the disappearance of an eccentric old lady with emerald earrings, helping a friend prove her missing husband was indeed lost at sea, and solving the mystery of a flying cow, seem safe enough. “My life is now what you might call boring. No mysteries, no narrow escapes from crazy people, no near death experiences at the hands of violent murderers, no food for disturbing nightmares… but… being boring is – well, if I’m honest, it’s actually jolly dull… tedious in fact.” However, there’s an annoying drunk constantly mistaken for Thomas, two little girls abandoned by their family, and an empty and possibly haunted hotel which he needs to investigate. He has promised his wife he will give up putting himself and his life in danger, he just needs to complete these commissions and then he can get back to being a good husband and father… he hopes.
