So, my latest novel in my Radwinter series is published, and you can find it as an e-book or a paperback on Amazon, and my thoughts are turning to what next. I do have ideas for another in the Radwinter series, this one set not in the imaginary small town of Easthope, but in another imagined place in south Somerset. I’ve written the first couple of chapters, and as usual I don’t really know where I’m going with it yet, however, I was looking through some of my files and I’m thinking I really ought to finish some of my other stories first.
There is the story of Gus, a rather lonely chap with a mysterious background who’s moved to a small village near the sea (not unlike the real village of Uphill where I live) Nothing much has happened to him yet, except he’s beginning to make friends in the local pub and he goes for solitary walks out on the salt marshes. Then there is another story about Frederico, whose wife disappeared three years ago. His father-in-law believes Frederico is responsible, and when his own wife becomes seriously, and possibly terminally ill, he goes after Frederico to force him to reveal the truth. After various incidents, Frederico goes across to my imaginary island of Farholm, thinking his missing wife might be there. His father-in-law follows with a hard man he’s picked up, a sea fog descends and… and that’s as far as I’ve got! A third story which I began to share here (and which I might start doing again) is also set in my imaginary village by the sea. A woman moves in – another person with a hidden past, but she is probably either in witness protection, or was an undercover police officer involved in something and now needs to be incognito. There is also my story set in the 1950’s about a missing girl… There is also my autobiographical writing,,,
So as you see I’ve got quite a few options and I’m dithering on what to move on to. Or maybe I should pull some short stories together and publish an anthology or two… or maybe I should try something completely different in a genre I’ve not written in before… I have a real writing itch, but I’m just not sure which way to go. Finishing stories I’ve started might be a bit of a slog, writing a completely new thing might be more exciting, hmmm, while I’m deciding I’ll write something for the writing group who’s meeting this coming Wednesday. The topic is to write a story from two different perspectives; I have written a couple with that device a few years ago, but it would be cheating to use one of them!!!
PS there is also my children’s story about Peggy and the lighthouse to finish…
