Nothing sadder than a wrecked boat

 

We live very near the sea; the River Axe runs into the Severn Channel by Uphill, our village, and many people have boats moored there or in the marina. No-one is supposed to live on their boats here, but someone did and incurred some fines. Rather than pay them he either tried to head out to sea, or deliberately grounded his boat, wedging it between the banks of the river. What did the boat do to deserve that?
