So impressed by Glasgow…

I’m not always very fond of shopping centres and malls but St. Enoch Centre was very different!  Originally the area was used for grazing area for sheep  since 1783. The St. Enoch Railway Station was opened in 1876 and three years alter the St. Enoch Hotel  and soon became Glasgow’s largest hotel! it was closed in 1974 for ten years the area was used as a car park. In 1985 work began on the  St. Enoch Centre, the first major modern shopping centre  in Scotland. There was a major refurbishment in 2005 which was completed five years later.

I think it is splendid, and look forward to revisiting!

So elegant, the stained glass and enamel reminded me of a cathedral, with the soaring struts of the roof above.

The random angles and lengths of these lamps were reminiscent of wild grasses; there was a sense of movement and nature

So who was Enoch? he was a Biblical character, a patriarch, but her in Scotland the name is supposed to be a corruption of Thenew, the mother of St. Kentigern, also known as St. Mungo, the Patron Saint of Glasgow…. OK!
