Where’s the snow?

The rest of England seems to be covered in snow, cousins are telling me about the cold Siberian wastelands of Cambridgeshire, the M20 is blocked in Kent, the staff of Dark Star brewery were trapped in the brewery over night (hey, that’s not fair! Did they do a stock check in the morning?)

Somehow here in the south-west we’ve escaped; there were a few little teasing flurries of flakes yesterday but today it is dry and clear, very cold, but pleasant…

Some little daffodils growing at the foot of the mystery tree; it has evergreen leaves, black flowers and black fruit. Behind the daffs is some cuckoo pint, it's a weed and very poisonous, but the lush green leaves give a bit of welcome colour. I'll chop it out later but it will return next year.

I know snow can be a terrible inconvenience, and risky for some people, but I just like it… and feel that it is an important part of the seasonal differences, to have at least some snow in the winter time.

I do… even when I used to go to work, if I looked out of the window and the snow was swirling around I got really excited, even if it meant a cold and tricky journey home!
