Riverford Organic Farms supply vegetable boxes, and also fruit, and meat, and lots and lots of other things. My friend Celia has been having deliveries once a week from Riverford’s for some time, and some time ago when we were staying with her and her husband, she was telling me all about it. She told me about the wonderful quality of the food, the flexibility of the service, the friendly people who delivered, or answered queries over the phone… It sounded wonderful, and I liked the idea of receiving locally gown produce from local farmers.
I’ve been thinking about having Riverford deliveries since Celia told me about it, and the other evening an opportunity presented itself to sign up for a sample box, so sign up we did! Our box arrived yesterday, a great big box handed to us by a smiley delivery lady. Tomatoes which taste like tomatoes! Great big carrots which taste carroty and not watery! Shiny courgettes! Firm onions! I know you can get all this from a supermarket, but you have to drive to the supermarket and I am so weak-willed that I always spend more than I mean to!

I should really do a separate blog post about the Agricultural Show and what went on at St Fagan’s last summer (yummy, 600 varieties of apples in one display)…let’s see if we can’t make people’s mouths water with the fruit and veg we have here!
