Walking in the woods

I’m feeling very dull… too many days inside, too many days not feeling as if I’m achieving anything.

I think I need to walk in the woods… there is something about trees that calms and inspires, there is some sort of slow and meaningful energy, slow because it takes so many years for a tree to grow, and then sustain itself for hundreds and sometimes even thousands of years. There is always something of interest, on the woodland floor, on the trees, between the trees, in the trees; there are the tiniest mosses and lichens, seed pods and shells, there are feathery fronds and sturdy trunks and branches. Sound changes in the wood, and there are strange sounds, maybe they are sounds from the trees themselves.

We passed a woodland today, it was mossy and green although there were no leaves on the trees yet; the sunlight was coming at a low angle casting interesting shadows. Evening was coming on and there was nowhere to stop but I though how nice it would be to walk in the wood.
