Enough cookery books?

Surely I have more than enough cookery books? I have a whole bookcase downstairs full of them (some of them are my husband’s…. but only a shelf full!) and I have half a bookcase full up here in my study. Not only that, I have a box of pages from newspapers I’ve pulled from magazines, some going back many years, some going back till when I first left home at 18 and started to cook for myself. As well as that there are the marvellous cooks I follow on WordPress and other sites, among them are:

http://ozlemsturkishtable.com/recipes/

http://www.perisspiceladle.com/recipes/

http://www.seasonalcookinturkey.blogspot.co.uk/

… and if that isn’t enough there are a million other food sites, bloggers, and pages with every recipe you could imagine!

So why might I need – no, why might I want, another cookery book? Cookery books give more than just recipes; if the great cooks whose sites I often go to who I’ve mentioned above publish books then I’ll buy them as son as they are in the shops! So what is it? Well, books are great, you can use them, refer to them, but also you can sit in bed and read them; you can look at the pictures, you can pick up little hints and enjoys stories and tales which accompany the recipes. If there is a particular cook you like, then buying their book makes a little connection… is that a bit sad?

So… the book in my featured pic, I spotted it in a bookshop; its by Valentina Harris and Lindy Wildsmith and as the title tells you, the book is full of recipes for cicchetti. I’d not heard of them before, but flicking through the book they look delicious… and straight forward to make. I’ve always liked Valentina’s recipes which made me pick up the book, as well as the title. These little snacks are served in bars, and seem to be similar to tapas or mezze…. mmmm! They sound just right to make whenn you have friends coming round for a social evening… like my book club for example!
