Updating…

I’m not updating anything, but I am getting seriously fed up with updating of things. I don’t mean I think everything should stay there same but ‘improvements’ are supposed to improve things. As the person using something I think I can judge whether the updated version is an improvement. I’m not a stick-in-the-mud, I like innovation and change… except when I’m left baffled and confused, and something which used to be simple and straightforward is now more complicated and takes longer and is just generally irritating.

Take WordPress as an example; things have been changed! Hurrah! Things should be better! But hang on, I used to be able to go to my site and click add new post and I could go to a blank page and write merrily away, inserting images, adding symbols, changing the size of the font easily from the page I was working on. But suddenly I get a pale blue screen which says beep beep boop as it loads and then the page I have is simplified to the extent that many things I want to do need several clicks to do them… Maybe I should have a go and practice on it… maybe I’d like it then… except I like working on a page from the dashboard so I have access to other things if I need.

Now there is another change… hurrah! Maybe this will be better than the previous one!Well, no… now I am taken to my welcome page… I don’t want to welcome myself, I want to write my blog… I see there is a link ‘new page’ I click it and I’m back to beep beep boop and the blue screen… (Yes maybe I should practice with it, but why should I if I like what I have?) OK so I can go to the little ‘Lois Elsden’ link at the top and get a drop down menu to dashboard… but really… why can’t I just go straight there? Even now, the ‘add new page’ that I’m working on hasn’t got an insert symbols feature… or if it has I can’t find it so all of these: ⅓,  ê,  °,  ë,  Æ,  Þ,  ð, I have to copy and paste from somewhere else… I can’t change the size of the font… or can I? I f I can where do I find out how to do it?

Many if not most people blogging here are just ordinary people, and aren’t tech wizards even if they are very adept at using it; I just wonder who initiated the changes, who has tested and trialled them… Ordinary bloggers or people who spend all their professional lives in the IT industry?

Grump over… I’ll write about bunnies next time…

It’s some kind of evil plot to make work for the techno-zombies and to make the rest of us crazy and redundant. I chose an early retirement because of an injury but mostly because of needless software changes that didn’t improve the processes one iota. Welcome to the Brave New World.
