Biker chicks

Two of these smiling young ladies were my dad’s aunties, Olive who was born in 1897, and the baby of the family, Grace who was born in 1902. Grace was always known as Gracie, and she was thought to be a little ‘flighty’ in the nicest possible way because she worked in a milliner’s. I have no idea when the photo was taken, sometime after the First War I would guess as the girls look in their late teens.

There had been seven children born to engine driver Tom Allen, and his tiny but fierce wife Anne, or Annie. I actually remember Tom and Annie because despite their very hard lives, they lived to well into their nineties. The oldest daughter was Fanny, and then came my grandma Maud, then the two brothers, Walter and Sidney, then between Olive and Grace was baby Blanche who sadly died at the age of one. If you had to think of typically Victorian names, then my family had them!

I don’t know where the photo was taken, nor who the third young woman was, but it was obviously a nice day because the girls are in summer dresses. If I knew more about fashion I might be able to date it more accurately… but in actual fact, it doesn’t really matter, it’s just a happy photo of three young women.

I JUST KNEW IT! You’re not a wanabee biker chic. It runs in your genes or maybe jeans. My favorite movie was Terminator Two with Arnold. I love the part when he said ( I want your clothes and the keys to your Harley Davidson ) Gotta love Arnold.

One of the best TV commercials ever was about an old man and his grandson sitting on the front porch when a young man roared by on his Harley. The youngster asks ( didn’t you want a Harley when you were young grandpa? ) The old fella said yes but grandma wanted aluminum siding for the house instead. Just then a piece of the siding fell off. Worst mistake I ever made said grandpa.
