Running up and down stairs

Most people gallop up and downstairs as easy as pie; I was brought up in a ground floor flat, and very rarely went up any stairs. occasionally we would go upstairs to see ‘Aunty’ Gladys who owned both flats, my grandparents lived in a house with stairs, and so did my other grandma… Some of my friends lived in houses with stairs, but I didn’t often run up and down them. When we moved to the west country we lived in a split level bungalow – there were three steps going up to the bedrooms, and then my parents moved to a proper bungalow. Over the years I’ve lived in various houses with staircases… it would have been rather odd not to, but then I bought a bungalow and we lived there for a dozen or so years.

So… yes, I do run up and downstairs, but I feel as if I have to concentrate! as part of my new regime to try and shed some excess weight, I decided as I mentioned a few days ago that every time I went up or downstairs, I would turn round and go back up/down another two times, so I’d ascend or descend three times… I’ve forgotten to do it a couple of times, and if I’ve done it then realise I have forgotten something and have to go backup/down again,I don’t always do yet another three runs… However to compensate for that, if I’m thinking about something I might absent-mindedly go up or down an extra fourth time.

I’m not expecting this tiny amount of extra exercise will make a huge difference, but it must be doing some good… mustn’t it?

Just be careful Lois because if you hurt your back your life is never the same. Trust me I know what I’m talking about. Try jogging back and forth to the Dolphin a couple of times because theres a reward when your finished. Makes more sense to me. No joking!

Our stairs are only very short… and when I say running, that actually is a gross exaggeration… gingerly going up and even more gingerly coming down!
      Jogging is beyond me… !
