New windows… the aftermath

We have new windows and jolly fine new windows they are! Well done window-fitting team! We had a couple replaced last year, and some more replaced now and the difference is immediate, inside and out. From the outside they look wonderful! From the inside we notice we are warmer, there are no draughts, we can open and close them easily and the rooms seem brighter because of the size and shape of the glass panes, so hurrah!

We had to clear the rooms to make space for the men to work – and boy, do we have a lot of stuff! We used the opportunity to get rid of unwanted things, charity shop, and dump, but then we were both struck down with a sort of flu, and it ended up with us just shoving things aside, piling things in rooms which weren’t having new windows, and generally having an emergency clear!

So new windows fitted, and we are over our flu-thing, so now… now the tidying up… unpiling the piles, sorting the stuff, rearranging everything, and trying to be strict with ourselves about throwing things away! Seems like a win-win, new windows and tidy house… soon!

An old girlfriend of mine was obsessive about keeping her windows sparkling clean as she said that you could tell a lot about the people in the house by the state of there windows. When I was staying with some friends in Holland we would go for a walk at night and I commented that every house had there curtains opened and you could just look right in. My friend said it was an old custom to show there openess and friendliness. Did you notice that when you were there?

I’ll have to have a look next time… we did go to a village where people seemed to have made an effort to make an attractive scene in their rooms for people to look at as they pass by. We never close our curtains here – only our bedrooms!
