This remarkable tree is in the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. it is the Tree of Somerset, and it’s carved from oak fwhich was grown on the nearby Quantock Hills; it shows scenes and events from the history of Somerset’s history, but it reminded me of Yggdrasil, the huge mythical tree which connects the nine worlds in Norse cosmology. I know that was an ash tree, but it still reminded me!
Here is some lines from one of the Eddas
An ash I know there stands,
Yggdrasill is its name,
a tall tree, showered with shining loam.
From there come the dews
that drop in the valleys.
It stands forever green over
Urðr’s well.

A magnificent tribute to the tree and the area where it once grew 🌿😊
