From my youth… but a whole different take…

Who would have thought it? I first subliminally became aware of The Drifters and The  Isley Brothers and other similar bands when I arrived in Weston-super-Mare, strangely. Our family had moved from Cambridge and my sister and I started at a new school, which seemed unbelievably old-fashioned. Old-fashioned, but in the sixth form common room at lunch time people played their favourite LPs (yes, LPs) and there was a group of girls who unfortunately I never ‘got in with’. They played music like I had never heard before, including the Isleys and the Drifters,

When I moved on to do my degree at Manchester Poly, my new friends and I went to discos where this was the music which was played… The Isleys, the Four Tops, the Supremes, the Drifters…

Here is a whole new take on an old favourite –
