It’s nearly bedtime, and just in case you need to know, if for example you’re more used to making hot chocolate with sweetened powder you mix with hot milk or boiling water, here is a recipe from the 1930’s for making cocoa. It might be very old, but this is the way i would make cocoa if i was asked –
Cocoa
- allow a teaspoonful of cocoa to one teacup
- mix the cocoa to a smooth paste with a title milk
- then stir on top of it boiling water, milk and water, or all milk
- pour into a saucepan, bring to the boil and boil it for a minute or two
- add sugar to taste.
In case you didn’t guess this is from Modern Practical Cookery published in the early 1930s Needless to say, my featured image is not cocoa!
