The other side of Uphill

Although Uphill is a very small village, there are definitely two sides; the people who live on the east side of Old Church Road, and those who live on the western, sea side of the village. There is actually no difference in type of houses, type of people, or anything at all, it’s just a sense of there being two sides. When I go out for  a wander round the village, I must often go down the sea then back past the boatyard, along by the rhyne (stream) past the Dolphin and back home.

The other day I set off past the Dolphin, and round the other side of the village. It was a lovely sunny day and I took plenty of pictures, and spotted a lot of lovely lichens en route.

Very blue!

1930’s? Older maybe?

Typical dormer bungalow; Uphill has quite an elderly population and these are very popular

I wouldn’t want to paint those window frames!

One of the oldest houses in the village; a charming thatched cottage, covered in roses in the summer – it was the old school house.

A glimpse of Uphill Castle – not a real castle but a lovely folly, now an excellent hotel

The former post office, closed by the previous government along with thousands of others even though so many people in the village used it; it is now three flats.

Such an attractive house; I think it must have been an old farm.
