How could you resist?

Every so often you see a book and it just calls out to you to buy it! it isn’t jut the subject matter, or the title, but it I something about the look and feel of the book as well. This is why I so desperately want to have my novels published as real books, or tree-books as a friend said, rather than e-books!

I have such happy memories of childhood rambles in the countryside, collecting blackberries or wild mushrooms (no commercially grown mushroom can match a wild one for flavour!) and other ‘wild’ foods. When my children were little we did the same, and I remember exploits to find sloes for sloe gin, hips and haws for some recipe I had found and of course blackberries. On holiday in Ireland we found wild strawberries, tiny but full of flavour, and wild raspberries too.

So when I saw a little book with an enchanting cover called ‘A Hedgerow Cookbook’ by Glennie Kindred, and when I leafed through and saw how beautiful it was, taking us through the year with the different seasons bounty of the different seasons, spring greens, shoots, stems and salad, summer flowers and herbs, autumn fruits, nuts, seeds and fungi, all beautifully illustrated… well, how could I resist?img088
