Many, many years ago I fell in love with the voice of Harry Nilsson, before he was very popular I loved him and I ordered his LP – yes back in the days of LPs, and I still have it… I only knew his most famous songs but soon I loved all of his music. I bought his other albums, as many as were available in the days when they had to be ordered form a record store. I loved him before he became more widely known for the theme song for ‘Midnight Cowboy’.
I knew very little about him, born in 1941 and dying in 1994 at the tragically young age of 52… But I just loved everything about him, his voice mot of all, his lyrics and his melodies…
I’ve only just realised that my other favourite singer, Raul Malo recorded this:

Crikey that’s a blast from the past. I adore Nilson

Sensational… so many great songs, ad he never performed them live!

Didn’t he? Wow, that would have been a fantastic concert.

Funny how ‘Without You’ seems to be a song sung by women now. Peter Ham from Swansea wrote it about a failed love affair. He committed suicide while he was still in his 20s. Memorial to him at Swansea station.

Do you know I didn’t realise – Iguess like most people I thought it was a Nilsson original… thanks… on my way to find out about Peter Ham!How tragic he was only twenty-seven when he died…

Yes, awful. His widow and daughter came here when his memorial was unveiled. His widow believes he was driven to suicide by the music industry. I don’t think he ever received royalties for his songs, he was ripped off.

So sad… it happened so often in the past… and maybe it still does, but I think people are more a little more savvy now… or so I hope!
