Hidden secrets of the rocky road..
They look a little like unripe rambutan which I love – used to buy by the kilo in Singapore (a tropical fruit) and eat through the lot. Peel the skin and eat the fruit….a little like lychee but better. Alternatively, perhaps a gooseberry….hmmmm

Thank you… I’m not sure they are rambutans, although they look very similar – when I looked at the link it said rambutans grow on trees, and this was a small shrub… But this has brought back lovely memories of eating fresh rambutans in Singapore, many , many years ago!

Could be Arbutus, the strawberry tree. Fruit is edible and it grows in this country.

Thank you… they certainly looked as if they should be edible! I wonder if they taste of strawberries?

I think they’re a native of Portugal and there was a bit of a c raze for the plants back in the 1980s. I think I remember that they were good for making a liquer, like sloe gin
